Maldives-A paradise for beach lovers
Sun, sand sea and serenity....this is what the Robinson Crusoe islands-better known as Maldives boast of. Are you ready to be pampered on a quiet beach, sipping your favourite drink or just lying on a sun bed staring at the clear blue skies? Take a plunge into the blue and tranquil waters of Maldives and I bet you would be tempted to return.
Officially known as the Republic of Maldives, this exotic destination consists of more than a thousand atolls scattered in the Indian Ocean. It is one of the most ideal destination for a honeymoon, a weekend getaway or a family relaxation holiday.
Where to Stay?
Ideally when you are out on a pleasure trip, you would like to stay in the capital city, but be sure you don’t do this once you land in Maldives. Unlike other tourist places, the island’s capital city Male is not flooded with exotic tourist resorts. The trend is a little different here: each island has its own private resort. There are almost 60 to 70 such resort islands. To name a few would be Hilton Maldives, Bandos Island Resort, Laguna Resort and so on. The principle is uncomplicated and simple-each island is hired by a resort as a private beach resort island. These islands could be as close as 1 kilometre or as far as 40 kilometres from the Airport. Most resorts provide a pick and drop from the airport by a speed boat or a seaplane (if you are willing to shell out a little more). These upscale and lavish resorts with pristine private beaches might burn your pocket, but they are worth the cost. Your room or cottage door would almost open at the beach.
Meals and beverages are served on the beach on most resorts. This makes your stay all the more worthwhile and relaxing. If you are on a honeymoon or anniversary getaway, the resort would also arrange a special dinner and cake for you, if informed before hand.
What to do?
When you plan a trip to Maldives be sure you are a complete beach-lover and are looking for a total relaxation. If you get bored easily or are looking for an adventurous break, this is definitely your kind of place- lookout elsewhere. Besides some water activities like scuba-diving and snorkelling there’s not much to do on these islands. But I am sure the pristine sandy beaches and clear blue waters will never let boredom creep in. Also be sure your trip does not exceed five days...else you are bound to get bored.
Male
The capital city of Male is the second most densely populated city. The city does not have much to see or do. Few attractions of the city happen to be the Male fish market, the Old Friday Mosque and the local market. You could even skip this visit unless you are really bored of the ocean.
Weather
The weather is a typical beach kinds which makes November to February the best time to visit Maldives. You could also consider October and March but definitely not summers and monsoons.
